ANTHONY, Fla. (WCJB) - The Florida Department of Health has issued a rabies alert for Marion County after a raccoon tested positive for the deadly virus over the weekend.
Health department officials say the rabid raccoon was found in the area of Anthony off Northeast 70th Street.
State health officials are reminding residents that people and their domestic animals should always avoid physical contact with wild animals following the confirmed case.
The rabies alert is for 60 days and includes the following boundaries in Marion County:
Northern boundary: NE 86 Lane
Southern boundary: NE 56 St.
Eastern boundary: NE 33 Court
Western boundary: Old US Highway 301
