JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. —

The Johnson County district attorney’s office announced Thursday that charges will not be filed in a deadly shooting by a Lenexa, Kansas, police officer.

District Attorney Stephen Howe, joined by members of the Officer-Involved Critical Incident Investigation Team, held a news conference to discuss a June 22, 2025, shooting that left a 25-year-old from Grandview, Missouri, dead. Advertisement

Officers with the Lenexa Police Department responded to Lenexa Crossing Apartments on June 22 regarding reports of an armed person near the complex.

When they arrived, they found a person, later identified as Jose Enrique Cartagena Chacon, inside a parked car near the apartment clubhouse.
