SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Thursday, city leaders approved a plan they’re calling Common Ground.

They say it will change a lot about how the Savannah Canal District looks and how accessible it will be to the downtown area.

Common Ground is a 120-page plan that lays out what could be a brand new canal district.

Mayor Johnson says between COVID and addressing other needs of Savannah, they haven’t been able to push it through.

The council’s focus is growing the area, preserving the historic communities there, making it more walkable by adding parks and trails and making it more accessible to downtown.

Another big change that an alderwoman today says has sparked interest among the people who live there is the revitalization of the Water Works building.
