TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - The future of Tybee Island Maritime Academy was back on the City Council Agenda Thursday.
The council decided whether to allow the school to use land from a local park to develop and grow. It was a resolution that had students, parents, and residents divided.
It was a packed but split Tybee Island city council meeting Thursday night.
Those in opposition say the charter school had more than enough resources to relocate, while those in support say it’s important to invest in a school on the island, as it is the future of the Tybee.
Tybee Island city council ultimately voted to approve the resolution that would make the parcel of land known as Memorial Park available for the school to use.
