GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids has once again turned down a father’s request to name a city street after his son who was fatally shot last summer.

The Grand Rapids city manager’s office declined to process a request this week from Corey Penn, the father of slain teen Amillier Penn, to rename Delaware Street after his son. The Penn family lives on Delaware Street, and it is a few blocks north of Umatilla Street, where the 15-year-old was killed in 2024 while playing football with friends.

This is the second time Corey Penn has asked to rename a city street “Amillier Penn Way,” after the Grand Rapids City Commission turned down a similar request in July.
