Mike McParland was optimistic about his Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team and through two games they seem to be proving him right.

Yes, they did lose to McGill in their first start of the season dropping a 5-3 decision at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens last weekend. But McGill is one of the highest ranked teams in the nation, and the Lakers battled until the end.

Just one day later, Nipissing took on another Quebec-based powerhouse UQTR ( Trois-Rivieres), and for the first time in six years against this opponent, the Lakers came away winners.

Nipissing won 4-1 and have confidence entering the weekend when they host Concordia on Saturday.
