Upgrades could be coming to the Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue department’s communications system. Recent studies indicate radio coverage for firefighters continues to be poor in some areas of the county despite investments in upgrades and current system is vulnerable to breakdown.
The reports indicate firefighting communications are tethered to the municipal system meaning a breakdown of that system can cut off communications at a fire scene. Another problem is that the repeaters installed on towers no longer have spare parts available. Also Fire and Emergency does not have the expertise
