ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested and charged a man for reportedly having a gun on South Carolina State University’s campus over the weekend.

Jimmy Lee Thompson Jr., 18, was charged on Thursday with carrying a weapon on school property, according to officials.

An arrest warrant states Thompson was found in the common area of the Hugine Suites on Saturday with a loaded handgun underneath a chair.

Thompson made a statement that he was sleeping in the chair.

He was booked into the Orangeburg County Jail and was later released on a $10,000 bond.

Records and information obtained by WIS show Thompson is now the ninth confirmed arrest made on Saturday for having a weapon on SC State’s campus.
