PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Oregon State Representative Hòa Nguyễn died Thursday morning after a battle with cancer, according to state leaders.

Nguyễn was a Democrat and represented House District 48, which includes Damascus and East Portland, according to her official website.

According to Oregon Democratic leaders, the party will form a nominating convention as the first step to filling Nguyễn’s seat.

“The Democratic Party of Oregon recognizes its responsibility to ensure continued representation for the people of House District 48 while we mourn the loss of Representative Nguyễn,” the party said in a statement.

They will announce the convention date, time, and place soon, leaders said.
