GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri State Health Department says they're on pace to exceed West Nile Virus cases from 2024.

That's on top of three reported deaths so far, the highest number reported since 2022.

So far, Greene County has two reported cases, compared to one in 2024 and three in 2023.

"Peak activity for West Nile virus is August, September, but it looks like because we had a pretty unusually warmer months entire summer and even now and sufficient rainfall that prolongs the day, there's more time for the season for mosquito-borne illnesses, specifically for West Nile virus," Dr. George Turabelidze, the state epidemiologist, said.
