It was a terrifying scene in Encinitas: A truck careened into a gelato shop, trapping a young boy underneath one of the truck's front tires.

Dozens of witnesses ran to help, followed by first responders, who were able to pull the 9-year-old to safety.

Officials say Edward De La Torre, 64, was driving a 2026 Chevy Silverado northbound when he collided into the back of a 2022 Toyota Prius. He then swerved off the road and crashed into Gelato 101, located at 480 South Coast Highway 101, investigators said. Afterward, the truck's driver was arrested, accused of driving under the influence.

It was a miracle nobody was killed in the crash, which took place on Wednesday evening around 6.
