The daughter of Hollywood icon Paul Newman, Susan Kendall Newman, died Aug. 2 from complications related to chronic health conditions, according to an obituary announced by her family .

Newman’s career began in the theater before she moved into film.

She starred in the 1978 Beatles tribute movie “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” and had a small role as a pharmacist in her father’s film “Slap Shot.” As a producer, her work on the ABC Theatre’s “The Shadow Box” earned a Golden Globe and a Humanitas Award, as well as nominations for Emmy, Peabody, and Grammy awards, her obituary noted.

Beyond Hollywood, Newman dedicated herself to philanthropy and social activism.
