WATERBURY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - A new report by Revitalizing Waterbury and the Waterbury Area Trail Alliance found that mountain biking contributes significantly to the local economy.
The report, completed earlier this summer, found tourism around the sport brings in more than a million dollars annually.
The study collected information from almost 300 mountain bikers. It found the average day-tripper spends about $45 in Waterbury and overnight visitors spend almost $250.
The study used data showing that more than 11,000 people visited Waterbury's trails last year to get its total estimate of over $1 million.
While bikers from Waterbury were not included in that number, according to the study, almost a third "of Waterbury residents who responded to our survey said they moved to Waterbury
