President Donald Trump may be considering a significant construction project, as indicated by a model of a triumphal arch displayed on his Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. This occurred during a meeting with Finnish President Alex Stubb on Thursday, which was observed by an AFP journalist and photographer.
The model depicts the arch situated on a traffic circle near Arlington Cemetery, across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial. A larger model of the arch was also present, showcasing details such as a winged golden angel holding a torch, flanked by two white eagles. Both models bear a resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, commissioned by Napoleon in the early 19th century to honor fallen soldiers.
The White House has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the arch project. However, the “Donald Trump for President” Facebook page, which boasts over six million followers, shared a drawing in September that closely resembles the design, suggesting a connection to the upcoming 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
Since resuming his role in January, Trump, 79, has initiated various renovation and construction projects. He has adorned the Oval Office with gold, paintings, and other decorations. Trump has also taken time during meetings to discuss the updates made to the White House Cabinet Room, including new drapes.
Additionally, he is constructing a large ballroom adjacent to the White House, with a model of this project appearing on his desk in a photo shared by Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino.
Trump has transformed parts of the White House to reflect the style of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, notably the newly renovated Rose Garden, which now features picnic tables and yellow and white umbrellas. In August, he signed an executive order promoting “classical” architecture inspired by ancient Rome and Greece. Trump has consistently voiced his intention to celebrate the military achievements and power of the United States.
