Former Wallabies footballer and independent senator David Pocock has been booted from parliament's social sports club after questioning whether it was appropriate for it to be sponsored by a gambling industry lobby group.

The Australian Parliament Sports Club organises social games between politicians and journalists and offers corporate memberships reportedly at a cost of $2,500.

Among the corporate members is Responsible Wagering Australia, a peak body for the gambling industry that represents companies like SportsBet. The prime minister is listed as the club's president and the group is currently included on the Attorney-General's lobbyist register.
