(NewsNation) — A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly beating and stomping a 64-year-old to death at a Brooklyn subway station.
Nicola Tanzi was attacked Tuesday at the Jay Street-Metrotech subway station in downtown Brooklyn, according to the NYPD. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
David Mazariegos was arrested in Times Square and charged with murder, robbery and grand larceny. Mazariegos was arrested 17 times previously, including on a robbery charge, according to NewsNation local affiliate WPIX.
Mazariegos had four of the victim's credit cards on him at the time of his arrest, according to police. He also had a katana sword stretching more than 20 inches long.
