BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) is encouraging people to apply for Community Health Worker certification.

This is part of an effort to increase the number of frontline public health workers, whose job is to connect people and communities to health care, social services, and other essential resources. Those who are certified may work for hospitals and health systems, tribal health, public health units, and other organizations.

There are four ways to become certified as a community health worker: • Community health worker training and internship • Indian Health Service Community Health Representative training • Supervised work experience • Reciprocity with another state for people already certified in that state
