The United States is set to deploy 200 troops to Israel to monitor the early stages of its ceasefire deal with Hamas.
The first phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan to end the war in Gaza has begun, following the Israeli cabinet officially ratifying it early on Friday morning.
The ceasefire is officially due to start within 24 hours after Israel's ratification of the deal, while the hostages in Gaza will be released within 72 hours after that 24-hour period.
The US "will initially have 200 people on the ground", led by the head of the US military's Central Command Admiral Brad Coopera, a senior official told reporters.
“His role will be to oversee, observe, make sure there are no violations."
