Two people have been killed by a falling tree in Tasmania's wild weather.

Acting Commander of Tasmanian Police Brenda Orr confirmed the pair's death in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

The two were out on a private property in Tasmania's northwest when they were struck by a falling tree.

“It appears that the severe weather has resulted in a tree falling on private property resulting in the death of those two people,” Ms Orr said.

They were both announced dead at the scene as the winds of more than 100km/h hit the island state.

The Northwest region is currently the most affected area in the state, with the Tasmanian police urging the public to be cautious as the weather front crosses.
