Two people have died after they were struck by a falling tree in the state's North-West, Tasmania Police say.

The pair was on a private property, out in the open, when they were hit, police said.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

"No other people have been injured," Acting Commander Brenda Orr said.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene about 12.10pm.

Police do not have permission from the family to provide any further details at this stage, including the exact location.

Acting Commander Orr said the police's priority was the safety of the community.

"Any loss of life is always tragic, but this is particularly tragic," she said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

More to come.
