COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - There is a new push to change Colorado laws that let people charged with crimes, even violent ones, walk free.
Under current Colorado statutes , those who are found incompetent to stand trial and cannot be restored to competency must have their case dismissed and be released from custody.
“There is no attempt to require them to be admitted into the state hospital, or restorability, or for mental health treatment going forward; they are just turned loose back onto the streets and are free to offend again in the future,” 4th Judicial District DA Michael Allen told 11 News in a previous interview.
