Australian grandmother Donna Nelson will make no further appeal against her drug smuggling conviction in Japan.

Nelson, 59, was found guilty of the crime in December after being arrested at a Tokyo airport in 2023 with 2kg of meth.

The Perth community leader and one-time Greens political candidate has always maintained she was tricked by a romance scammer and is a victim.

An appeal to the Tokyo High Court in September was unsuccessful and she was ordered to serve out the rest of her six-year sentence.

“I had been so hopeful that this was going to be the end,” daughter Kristal Hilaire said last month.

“It’s very tiring to keep fighting this fight and I just thought we all would be able to rest and be going home with her.”

Nelson has always maintained her innocence.
