Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have confirmed that three children have died and one is seriously injured after a house they were playing in caught fire in Dzoole Village.

According to Mponela Police Spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, the deceased children have been identified as Joas Gledson and Onesiano Eliya, both aged 5, and Sydney Joseph, aged 3.

The children were playing inside a house that was under renovation and belonged to a local woman. While playing, one of the children reportedly set fire to the thatched roof, which quickly engulfed the structure, trapping the children inside.

When villagers arrived to rescue them, three of the children had already died, while one was found alive but with serious injuries.
