A South Carolina truck driver pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Charleston to a federal charge of negligently discharging pollutants into Paint Creek when the tractor-trailer he was driving while intoxicated overturned on the West Virginia Turnpike on Aug. 24, 2022.
Dennis Eugene West of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, was driving north on the Turnpike, carrying a dozen 275-gallon totes of an industrial cleaning fluid when his truck overturned while crossing the Skitter Creek Bridge south of Mahan in Fayette County, according to the agreement that produced Thursday's plea.
