And just like that, it’s autumn.

Gone are the hot days, humid nights and damaging storms that whipped us this summer. That’s a good thing for those of you looking to harvest crops.

It was becoming an all-too-common comment in our reporting in recent weeks that the excessive heat was either advancing the harvest quickly for those chasing soybeans or it was holding back harvest for those digging beets and potatoes. Potato harvest has wrapped up, soybeans are nearly picked clean and sugarbeets are flying off the fields with the onset of cooler weather. And now, if the deer don’t have your fields licked clean, corn seems to be advancing along quickly.
