As she awaited her TV debut, Maddy Wassink’s eyes weren’t on the cast or scanning the background extras. They were staring at the wall.

Specifically, a wall on the Netflix show “Wayward.”

And among the final scenes of the final episode, there it was — one of her string art pieces getting its own close-up.

The Welland artist had binge-watched the entire series in one weekend, unsure if her piece was going to be included in the final cut. But the art, depicting a toad, was a symbolic part of the show’s theme and emerged on screen right before the credits.

“At some point, I had a little bit of doubt,” says Wassink, the owner of Knot Really Art . “I thought, oh well, maybe they ended up cutting it if it wasn’t part of the direction — you know how shows can change.
