SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield subcommittee meeting was held today to discuss the city's decision not to apply for two significant park grants, raising concerns among city officials.
The grants in question are the Land & Water Conservation Fund and the Parkland Acquisitions & Renovations for Communities grants, which have historically been pursued by the city. The decision not to apply has been attributed to financial constraints and budget priorities, according to city officials.
"I just went digging to see what opportunities financially we are getting in the city of Springfield," said City Councilor Tracye Whitfield, who is seeking answers about the decision. "I think we have a new parks executive director that missed the mark. I'm just not buying that."
