RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A new "quick build" bike lane expansion project is coming to Richmond's Southside as of Thursday afternoon, with plans for completion by winter this year.

Drivers should expect some disruptions during the construction phase, but DPW ensures that it aims to minimize inconveniences.

According to an Oct. 9 release from the city's Department of Public Works," a new quick build project will be implemented on Belt Boulevard between Broad Rock Road and Warwick Road, supporting the Richmond 300 master plan, Richmond Connects transportation plan and City’s Vision Zero Action Plan.

The project will reportedly repave and reorganize Belt Boulevard to increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. Specifically, the expansion will ensure safer access to the Hickory Hill Commu
