Citing an "anomaly in the property boundaries," the City of Cedar Rapids has altered the public right-of-way near the building that houses the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The update comes after the City of Cedar Rapids conducted a "detailed review" of the property at 3351 Square D Dr. S.W., following an obstruction permit request for a 7-foot chain link fence to be placed outside the facility.
In the review, city staff identified that the "public right-of-way appeared unusually wide compared to adjacent parcels,” according to a Cedar Rapids news release.
The updated boundary shows that the planned fence will now be on private property, and the city no longer needs to issue a permit.
