GREENVILLE, S.C. —

The National Weather Service in Greenville and Spartanburg South Carolina says North Carolina and South Carolina have spent twice as many days within the National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone of uncertainty as any other state.

Forecasters say they often see Gulf Coast states lead in this metric, but 2025 has taken a different turn.

They point out that even more notably, Arizona and New Mexico are tied for the second most days in the cone.

The National Weather Service says these trends highlight the importance of staying prepared and maintaining situational awareness, even in regions that don’t often find themselves under the cone of uncertainty.
