The federal government shutdown that began 10 days ago is having an impact on several major airports across the country.
Insufficient staffing levels for air traffic controllers and airport security screeners over the last week have caused flight disruptions at several of the nation’s largest travel hubs.
In Michigan, airports hadn’t yet reported any staffing issues or service interruptions as of Thursday, Oct. 9. Airport officials in Detroit, Flint, Kalamazoo, and Lansing said they didn’t anticipate disruptions in the near future.
“We want to reassure travelers that their travel will not be impacted by the federal government shutdown,” said Katherine Japinga, director of marketing for Capital Region International Airport in Lansing.
