A new organization is bringing a ballot initiative to protect the ballot initiative process itself in order to defend against what the group is calling "attacks" on the ability for citizens to amend the state's constitution.
Montanans Decide announced last week an initiative for the 2026 ballot that, if passed by voters, would insert language into the Montana Constitution to safeguard the process "from unjustified interference by the government."
"The initiative process itself is becoming a lot more difficult to utilize and a lot more difficult for Montanans to use," said SK Rossi, a spokesperson for Montanans Decide who also helped to get the right to abortion into the Montana Constitution in 2024.
