Hours after Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corino Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 with the White House slamming the Nobel Committee for giving Donald Trump a snub, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the US President's peace efforts. Reacting to the development that has ignited a debate around this year's winner, Putin said that Trump "does a lot for peace", news agency Reuters reported.
Putin on Friday praised Trump for "doing a great deal to promote peace," pointing to the recent Middle East ceasefire as a key example. However, he noted that it was not his prerogative to judge whether Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.
Putin also addressed Trump’s broader Gaza peace initiative, saying that if it succeeds, it would represent "a truly historic achievement".
