October 10, 1936 - President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the first lady drove from the Burlington Station to the Capitol, waving as crowds lined the sidewalks. His speech came as he was aiming for re-election.
Roosevelt paid tribute to the capitol, the importance of citizens being “watchful” and discerning truth from false in the election.
It’s reported that one attendee wearing the button of FDR’s competitor, took his button off and dropped it on the sidewalk.
