The Election Commission (EC) will conduct a phased Special Intensive Revision (SIR), or voter list verification, across the country following its implementation in Bihar, officials told PTI.
SIR will begin in states where assembly elections are scheduled for 2026. In the first phase, voter verification will take place in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
Objective of SIR
The Election Commission aims to update electoral rolls and remove illegal voters, including deceased persons, relocated individuals, and foreign nationals. Around 3 crore voters were verified in Bihar in just one month.
