EAST CHICAGO — A protest is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at East Chicago City Hall in the wake of multiple sighting Thursday of masked officers suspected by local officials to be Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Hammond and East Chicago, East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland announced.

"I urge our residents to remain calm and not engage with ICE agents, either verbally or physically," he said.

"We fully support the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech," Copeland said of Saturday's protest at city hall, 4525 Indianapolis Blvd.
