COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a minivan and a box truck crashed Friday morning in Comstock Township, sending both drivers to the hospital, after the driver of the minivan dozed off behind the wheel.

It happened around 7:20 a.m. on the 6,400 block of E. N Avenue near S. 26th Street.

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's office, the driver of a westbound minivan fell asleep and drifted across the center line, crashing head-on into a box truck. The crash caused the box truck to roll.

Both drivers had to be extricated, deputies said. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say they don't believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
