1Alexandria, Virginia — New York State Attorney General Letitia James was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.
The charges, announced Thursday by U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, stem from allegations related to a mortgage application for a property in Virginia, where James is accused of misrepresenting details to secure more favorable loan terms.
“No one is above the law,” Halligan stated in a press release.
“The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public’s trust. The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served.”
