NEWARK - A four-alarm fire tore through an apartment building on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Sunday, Sept. 28, hospitalizing one firefighter and two citizens and displacing upwards of 50 Newark residents.
The fire started at the nine-unit apartment building at 48 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Newark’s North Ward, and quickly spread to the adjacent buildings at 48-1/2, and 50 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
One firefighter was reportedly injured after being struck by a beam. He and two residents were transported to University Hospital for treatment. Another firefighter was evaluated at the scene.
