Kate Hulett has capped off a remarkable year by being named Fremantle’s business person of the year.
The Fremantle businesswoman turned political figure who gave Labor scare in this year’s State and Federal elections received the accolade at the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce’s awards night at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges on October 9.
It was a bittersweet victory for Ms Hulett, who announced earlier in the month she would be closing her business this weekend.
The origins for Kate and Abel, an eclectic homewares storefront that sold books, kitchenware, fashion accessories and more, date back to 2013.
Ms Hulett said the decision came due to a sudden and unsustainable spike in rent.
