AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Fire officials say a disabled elderly woman is in critical condition after she was rescued from a fire Friday morning in Austintown. Neighbors reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the home in the 38-hundred block of Cannon Road around 9:40 am. Austintown Fire Chief David Schertzer says crews were familiar with the layout of the home due to previous medical calls and rescued the woman through the front bedroom window. She was taken to the hospital. Schertzer says there is extensive damage to the home.

At this point, it’s unknown how the fire started. The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to assist with the investigation.
