SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A $7 million, philanthropy-funded project will transform a historic 1886 convent in Wexford, Ireland, into accommodations for Georgia Southern students traveling abroad, according to a press release from Georgia Southern University.

Georgia Southern University and Wexford County Council in Ireland broke ground on the redevelopment of the historic Adoration Convent in Wexford Town on Sept. 30, 2025, the release says.

The project will create “new student housing and expand opportunities for international study.”

When it reaches its projected completion in early 2027, the 1886 convent will be transformed into “modern accommodations for up to 56 Georgia Southern students.”
