AUSTIN, Minn. - A trial date has been set for the teenager charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting of two men in Austin.
Phillip Tyrek Gills, 17 of Austin, has pleaded not guilty and his trial is scheduled to start on February 2, 2026.
According to court documents, Gills got into the backseat of an SUV around 1:30 pm on February 25. Investigators say Opoka James Bot Lob Nathanael, 27, and another man were sitting in the front. Gills allegedly shot both men, killing Nathanael and wounding the other victim. Law enforcement says Gills then exited the vehicle and ran away.
Gills was originally arrested as a juvenile but this case was transferred to adult court on June 25.
