The official UFC Rio weigh-in on Friday was less than ideal, with one fighter missing weight by nearly an entire weight class and another weighing in despite his opponent withdrawing from the event.
Saimon Oliveira came in at 144 pounds ahead of his scheduled bantamweight matchup with Luan Lacerda. The non-title bantamweight limit is 136 pounds, which is how much Lacerda weighed.
Oliveira, 34, is 0-3 in the UFC and has been finished in his past two. Missing weight by this much is not a good look. The UFC announced the fight will proceed at a catchweight, according to MMAFighting’s Guilherme Cruz, with Oliveira expected to be fined a significant percentage of his purse.
