Oct. 6 is a day that has held special meaning in Hay River for nearly 20 years.

It was in the early morning hours of Oct. 6, 2007 that RCMP Const. Christopher Worden was murdered while trying to arrest Emrah Bulatci, the man who was convicted of first-degree murder in Worden's death in 2009.

Residents of the town gathered at the Hay River Community Centre on Monday evening for a candlelight vigil and memorial ceremony, which included a walk from the community centre to the town's RCMP detachment.

Cpl. Josh Seaward, media relations officer for NWT RCMP, was in Hay River for the vigil and said it's obvious the town has never forgotten.
