CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The U.S. Senate passed its annual defense policy bill on Thursday, which includes millions set aside for Joint Base Charleston.

Senators authorized $924.7 billion for fiscal year 2026 through the upper chamber’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act, a larger figure than the $893 billion approved by the House last month.

Its passage on Thursday initiates the conference process in which members of each chamber’s armed services committee will work to reach a compromise.

Although there are some differences in appropriations, both the House and Senate bills include $357.9 million for Joint Base Charleston, which supports more than 90,000 active-duty servicemembers, their families, civilians, and retirees across the Air Base and Naval Weapons Station.
