DUBLIN, Ga. — is mourning a student who died last week after a battle with leukemia.

Quinteriyah Ashley, 14, was remembered by friends, family and teachers as a determined and intelligent girl who inspired those around her.

For her mother, Danelle Ashley, photographs and memories are all that remain of her daughter, whom she described as smart and remarkably strong.

"What she went through, I don't think I could have," Danelle Ashley said.

The leukemia diagnosis came as a shock to the family.

"When we first found out she had cancer, it was something that no one would have thought," Danelle Ashley said. "You see it, but you don't really know what people actually go through until it's actually you."
