JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City commissioners have their hands full as they decide who to select for an open seat created by former Mayor John Hunter's resignation, with 19 residents having submitted letters of interest by Friday's noon deadline.

Those letters, along with resumes for a number of candidates, are live on a webpage city staff created on the city's website. The selected candidate will serve until November 2026, the election date when Hunter and fellow commissioner Jenny Brock both were up for reelection.

The four remaining commissioners — Mayor Greg Cox, Jenny Brock, Todd Fowler and Joe Wise — now have a short turnaround time to review submissions and submit the names of two finalists each by 9 a.m. Monday. Those finalists will be interviewed at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a
