LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare's Audubon Hospital has a new treatment for pancreatic cancer that can extend survival rates and improve the overall quality of life for patients.

In a news release Friday, officials said William B. Evans III, M.D., a gastroenterologist with Norton Gastroenterology Consultants of Louisville, is the first and only physician in Kentucky who can perform the specialized treatment, which is a combination of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

Endoscopic ultrasounds have physicians use an endoscope equipped with an ultrasound probe to capture real-time, high-resolution images of the gastrointestinal tract and surrounding organs. These images allow physicians to pinpoint exact locations within the body.
