In a significant move towards administrative modernisation, the Odisha Cabinet has approved the framing of the Odisha Registration of Birth and Death (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
This decision implements the provisions of the Registration of Birth and Death (Amendment) Act, 2023, recently enacted by the Government of India.
The updated rules aim to overhaul the existing framework—previously governed by the 2001 Rules based on the 1969 Act—by introducing a uniform, digitised, and citizen-friendly system for registering births, deaths, and stillbirths across the state.
